My Xbox 360 wants a HD-TV

by Marcus on February 20, 2007

And it's probably gonna get one. Been wanting to upgrade my old 28" CRT TV from Philips, and now seemed to be a fitting time. Probably won't be able to afford one when I start studying. Anyway, I'm thinking about a 32" LCD-TV, and at the moment I've narrowed it down to these two:

Sony KDL-32S2530

Specs:
Resolution: 1366 x 768.
Connections: 2 x HDMI, 1 x Component, 2 x SCART.
Price: appr. 10.000 DKK.

Philips 32PF9541

Specs:
Resolution: 1366 x 768.
Connections: 2 x HDMI, 1 x Component, 2 x SCART.
Price: appr. 10.000 DKK.

As you can see the specs are pretty much identical, I went to the local store and watched them in action, the picture is incredible. Surprising how big a different there is between HD-TVs with almost the same specifications, there was no visible difference between the picture quality on these two though.

It should improve the quality of the Wii, too, so double “wahey”.

Oh, that’s right. :D

WTF you’re paying 10k for 1366×768 HDTV?? You can get a 1920×1080 for just about the same, maybe a bit more expensive, but if you earn that much money…!

But why would I want to pay more for 1080p when it’s more or less useless at the moment? And I don’t make THAT much money. :P

HIFIpriser.dk
That’s an EDBpriser search on 1920×1080 HDTVs with both HDMI, Component, and SCART.
And okay, well, the ones from “decent” manufacturers are a whole lot more expensive, but how about those Samsungs? Should be okay??

I’m not gonna buy anything I haven’t seen in action, as mentioned it’s suprising how big the difference is from one TV to another. Also, I’m going to buy a 32″ TV, and none of the TVs in that link is less than 37″.

Apparently there’s no 32″ TVs on hifipriser.dk with 1080p, which makes me wonder if such TVs even exist.

Yeah I know about the size… nevertheless, 10000,- is a whole lot to pay for a 1366×768 HDTV , I think!

Oh, and I don’t think you can really trust that; uh, well, I’m pretty sure they exist, what can I say…? Lemme get back to you…

Hehe, okay. :) Seems a bit overkill to have 1080p on a 32″ TV though, I’d understand if someone wanted it for a 40″+ TV.

Just stumbled upon Zepto’s new(?) TV’s, and since they (Zepto) are known to produce the most solid and, perhaps more importantly, laptops, you might want to give it a go.

Link.

*perhaps more importantly, incredibly cheap laptops

Nice, I’ll look into that, not much detailed information on the site though. Thanks for the tip.

I’m pretty sure the smallest panel for a 1920×1080 rez is 37 inches…

I don’t get why 1080p is useless at this moment; I thought the 360 supported 1080p (games, not the dashboard!)

I was just really appalled that a 1366×768 HDTV costs 10k… how about other models, have you seen some cheaper ones in action? 1366×768 is by far the most common, as far as I know, so there should be loads of models to choose from… =/

The Xbox 360 does support it, but no games do, yet. 10k for a 1366×768 is not much at all, if you want a high-quality television.

No — no, I guess it isn’t… hmm… I sure hope I can have my 1600×1200 monitor running 720p without much distortion… so that I won’t have to buy an HDTV right away… I might wait for OLED — SED seems so far away… :’(
