EFC: Shooting Games

by Marcus on September 10, 2007

The second week at the EFC is upon me, and we're finally using the equipment! The following two weeks we will be divided into crews, two persons manning each position, ie. two writers, two camera men, two directors and so on. Every day we will have new positions and then we have two hours each day to make a 2-min movie. As it's called shooting games, we're not supposed to make anything of great quality, but just bond and learn how to use the equipment.

Today I was a script writer, so I got a logline saying "Money is the root of all evil" and then had to write a story about that with, another guy, in 45 mins. I actually liked the story we came up with, it had some slapstick comedy and ended up with the protagonist, who had been going through a lot of trouble to steal a small amount of money, losing the money and realizing he had to go through it all again. Unfortunately it got butchered by our director (only one, since we couldn't find the other person). Since we only had two hours to shoot it we were kinda in a hurry, but she decided to add new scenes that wasn't important to the story at all, so when we got around to shooting the main scenes we ran out of time and the ending was ruined. But, as mentioned, it's only a game, so I don't really care anymore at this point. We're going to watch all movies made by all crews today, at 19:30, so I'm really looking forward to that. I'll also see if I can upload our movie to YouTube, even though it's probably not worth viewing.

It was a lot of fun having a real DV camera and sound equipment though, makes you feel a bit professional. Anyway, the movies will hopefully be a lot better the following days, I'm looking forward to be the asshole-director. :P

I also ordered a Macbook today, so Kasper will probably whine in the comments.

Dude seriously, Sunshine is far better than a 5/10. I gave it a 7/10 and I base that on the fact that it’s a great sci-fi movie with good acting, nice effects and a pretty cool story. Also the whole feel of the movie is great. The problem with the movie to me though is, that it’s like that only the first 2/3 is good and then the last part is pretty bad. I mean the whole (spoiler) thing with the dude who survived on the 1. spacecraft (i forget the name) is god damn stupid, especially because the rest of the movie is pretty believable and real.

Anyways, would love to see your movie :P I actually was an actor in an exams movie (if that is what you call it) for some guys who were finishing the EFC. It was pretty fun. We also got to toy around with some of their equipment, like that super sensitive mic that reaches like 1km or something. Oh yeah, we also played a lot of basketball xD

The script for Sunshine was horrible. All the factors that drove the story and made it suspenseful (ie. the garden exploding, the potentiel mutiny, Pinbacker surviving and raising the mainframe, and the weird aura around Pinbacker) was very poorly written. Why was the garden hit by sunlight? They calculated the process very precisely and it seems very unrealistic that something like that could happen. Why would they choose people for the mission that wouldn’t, without blinking, sacrifice themselves and the others for the sake of the mission, when the mission was so important?

It was obvious that they didn’t want the audience to see Pinbacker to make it more exciting, but it was just stupid, why didn’t Cillian Murphy’s character turn up the filter in the observation room, so he could see who was in there? And how the hell can you just pull up the mainframe computer, turning off all electricity onboard, without the ship doing anything to stop it? Especially after you’ve seen the ship automatically alternate the position of the shield when the garden is on fire. Also, they didn’t explain anything about why Pinbacker had gone insane and why the rest of the crew had burned themselves. Stupid movie. :P

And then there are a lot of just stupid scenes, like the one where they jump from one spaceship to the other, in the middle of space, without a suit, and survive.

An IBM may look “boring”, but it’s solid, quiet, light, silent and “just works”. :)

Macbook, oh noes! Tired of Windows, go Linux, go!

Anyway, couple of guys from HTX, could perhaps help me out with some low-level math? :
(Omskrivning af kvadratsætninger)
x(x as second)-16x+64 = ?
4x(x as second)+ 25y(25y as second)+20xy = ?
x(x as second)+4x+4 = ?

Marcus don’t be like Davir when he was buying a new mobilephone please.

It’s not like I haven’t done research, I just don’t want an ugly laptop. That may not seem like a relevant or important factor to you, but it is to me.
