Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of WHAT THE FUCK JUST HAPPENED?!
May 23rd

Spoilers ahoy.
Like most people I’ve been an Indiana Jones fan since my eyes witnessed the awesomeness that is Raiders of the Lost Ark. Naturally, I had to go see the newest addition to the franchise, with out expecting much though. Since nine buddies from my Film College stay was going to the midnight premiere in Imperial, I decided to catch the train and tag along. I’ve never been to Imperial, so that was an experience in itself, awesome cinema.
After a small, but pretty cool, stage show the movie began, and I was actually enjoying it (and so was the rest of the cinema, since they seemed fit to clap at every single quote/punch/whiplash). I was still entertained though, Ford was great, the small references to the previous movies warmly welcomed, and I even liked Shia LaBeouf’s character. Further more, I bought the ridiculously unrealistic action sequences, the amount of CGI and even the somewhat farfetched storyline about alien lifeforms. But then something happened, and the movie was over. People didn’t seem to comprehend what they had just seen, the intense clapping had suddenly vanished, not a single one, even at the credits, just incredulous looks on the faces of 1000 other Indy fans. The light came on and muttering began in the corners, “Was that an alien… ?”, “Did we just see an UFO rip a temple apart… ?”, “How can we get to George Lucas and rip his head off?”. Yes, there is a full-fledged CGI alien and flying saucer in an Indiana Jones movie. It’s mind-boggling, it’s absurd. These movies have always been on the edge of occult, supernatural stuff, and that’s one of the things that make the series so great. But inserting a fucking living alien that subsequently flies off in its huge spacecraft is just fucking retarded. I mean, what were they thinking?! The movie doesn’t even end properly, the alien just comes to life and flies off!
Also, the story is kind of confusing, the whole treasure-hunt part doesn’t really work, and the last scene, the wedding, ending with Mutt almost picking up the hat wasn’t even funny, considering Lucas’ remarks about making the next Indiana Jones movie with Shia LaBeouf in the leading role. That’s the second great movie trilogy that guy singlehandedly fucks up. Thanks a lot.
Rating movies
May 13th
I rate all movies I see using the 10-grade rating system that most movie websites utilize, and I thought I’d write a small description on how I use the grades, just to get some discussion going. It is, of course, very subjective, and if I look through my voting history on IMDb I’ll probably make a lot of adjustments. Anyway, here goes:
10 – Fantastic movie, personal favorite, high replay value. (Example: Le Fabuleux destin d’Amélie Poulain, Fight Club)
9 – Fantastic movie. (Example: RoboCop, Twelve Monkeys)
8 – Great movie. (Example: Gladiator, Batman Begins)
7 – Above average, minor annoyances, but highly enjoyable. (Example: Jarhead, Hard Candy)
6 – Average, some annoyances, but overall enjoyable. (Example: Constantine, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back)
5 – Below average, not recommendable. (Example: Cars, Deja Vu)
4 – Bad movie, often big movies with horrible scripts. (Example: Fantastic Four, Scary Movie 4)
3 – Horrible. (Example: I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, Hostel)
2 – Painfully bad, movies that even I could’ve made better. (Example: The Seeker: The Dark is Rising, Eye for Eye)
1 – Inexcusable and not worth even discussing. TV-movies and the likes. (Example: D-War, Epic Movie)
Stuff I’ve been doing
May 11th
Hello there, I finally got around to post a new entry, I’ll just kind of write about stuff I’ve been doing the last three weeks or so.
First of I ended my stay at the European Film College, it was rather sad, especially because some of the friends I’ve made live in other countries. On the other hand, staying in touch is easier than ever with Facebook, Skype, etc. The last week on the school was awesome, we didn’t really have anything to do, the only real thing that was planned was the screening of our final projects, so we just partied.
My movie didn’t really turn out that good, our main problem was the actors, we had two kids and two adults, the actor playing the dad was very good, the other three kind of sucked. Also, since it’s a sci-fi we kind of had to built a convincing set and we only had 1500 DKK for the entire project, but the end result was still satisfying (see pictures in latest entries). It was awesome to see the other final projects though, some of them were really, really good.
As a finale we got to see Nimbus Film’s new movie, Det som ingen ved (What No One Knows) because their owner, Bo Erhardt, is the chairman of the school’s board. Leading role is (surprise, surprise) Anders W. Berthelsen, and it’s a "Oh-my-God-is-the-Danish-government-making-chemical-weapons"-kind of thriller with an added commentary to the Big Brother-like society we’ve come to live in. It’s directed by Søren Kragh-Jacobsen and co-written by Rasmus Heisterberg, Nikolaj Arcel’s writing partner from the EFC. I didn’t really like the movie though, seemed like I had seen it before, just better.
Then I got home, just in time to prepare a little doc-like movie for my mom’s 50-year birthday, which was this friday. It all went down fine. I also got to see Iron Man which was a pleasure to watch, well, until the movie’s third act though. I’m thinking of going to the cinema to see it again. On another note, the fourth season of Lost has started again, and I’m gonna watch the tenth episode this afternoon. The season has really taken off, the start was quite boring, but now it’s great. Since the weather is so nice I’ve also bought a bunch of Ray Bradbury books, more specifically Fahrenheit 451, The Illustrated Man and The Martian Chronicles. Right now I’m reading the Chronicles, it’s a bunch of short stories about mankind’s colonization of Mars, and they all intertwine nicely. The book’s written in 1951, and the stories all take place in 1999 – 2025, kind of funny to read.
