I finally bought the Xbox 360 version of Fallout 3 today, and in the old games I always had a hard time consistently choosing skills, perks, dialogue options, etc. My characters always came out kind of neutral, never really unique, because I just chose depending on what I felt in that situation. So, this time I’ll play the game with a certain set of rules in mind, governing how to act in situations, what weapons to choose, etc. And I’ve chosen the mindset of Ash Williams, the protagonist of the cult Evil Dead series, since he’s a very interesting character. Ash is a bit of an asshole, he is ego-centered, spends a lot of time throwing awesome punchlines in all directions, is very hot-tempered, and lo-o-oves double-barreled shotguns. I’ll try to journal his travels through the wastelands, and this entry will start from the beginning; Ash’s childhood in Vault 101:
The first part of Fallout 3′s character generator lets you customize your appearance, I didn’t really put a lot of effort into this, but it came out all right (not really):

Anyway, on to the important stuff; the stats!
- Strength (5)
Ash is a pretty skinny dude, and with no weapons he is a poor fighter. He does excel with chainsaws, but his skinniness pulls him down in this category. - Perception (4)
Making plans before going into combat does not seem to be one of Ash’s strengths, and so he is no master of explosives or lockpicking. Overall he is not very aware or his surroundings. - Endurance (7)
Ash can take a punch, he is surprisingly resistant to a lot of things, and even though I’ve never seem him operate a big gun, he seems like the kind of guy who can fire a rocket launcher. - Charisma (4)
In general, Ash isn’t really a charming guy, he doesn’t care what other people think of him, and so speaks his mind. - Intelligence (7)
He is, however, quite skilled when it comes to blacksmithing and building various machinery and mechanics. He’s also quite capable of patching himself up and repairing his gear. - Agility (8)
Ash also loves his shotgun, and he is a bit of a sneaky bastard. - Luck (5)
Ash lost his girlfriend, his hand, and he was sucked into a time portal, not exactly a lucky guy.
Ash gets the following skills:
- Big Guns (End)
Even though Ash doesn’t use big guns in any of his movies, he seems capable enough of using flamethrowers, miniguns, etc. - Repair (Int)
As mentioned Ash is skilled at building all kinds of things, he modifies a chainsaw to fit onto his stump, he creates a robotic hand, and he turns his car into a killing machine. Repairing equipment should not be a problem. - Small Guns (Agi)
Ash is an expert when it comes to Remington shotguns, I’m gonna assume that he knows how to handle small weaponry in general, as well.
At the same time I will think of the following skills, since they are related to the ones above:
- Medicine
Ash is quite skilled at patching himself, like Repair, Medicine is also dependent on Intelligence. - Science
As mentioned Ash can build almost anything out of nothing, once again this is dependent on Intelligence. - Sneak
Dependent on Agility, this is a skill that may be looked a little into. Ash’s stealing skills are probably pretty bad.
And so Ash commences his journey through the wastelands. So far he’s kicked the living shit out of Butch and his gang, alienated his dad and tried his best to hook up with the babe by not killing her dad. Yay!
