Bad Design:
Sony’s PlayStation 3 Remote

I got my PlayStation 3 which is great and all, and I also ordered the Bluetooth remote. Already when I ordered it I winced at the horrible, horrible design choices and they’re even more apparent now that I’ve used it a little. Not only is it filled with a lot of useless buttons, it even has buttons that do the exact same thing! I recently bought a WD TV Live media player, and its remote looks like this:

It’s brilliant! It does everything it needs to with a minimum of buttons (17 to be precise). Now let’s take a look at the PlayStation 3 remote:

I mean, come on, this thing has 51 buttons. Who uses numbers for their DVD/Blu-ray player? I don’t even know what the “CLEAR” and “TIME” buttons do and I’ve never in my life used those colored buttons. Under those we have the four standard menu buttons, but the triangle, square, cross and circle buttons do the same thing! It’s the same with the L1-R3 buttons, which do the same as the arrow buttons underneath. It’s ridiculous, so in the WD TV Live spirit I decided to photoshop it into this:

Honestly, do you need more?

Other than the design flaws the remote seems to work fine, it’s weird not having to point it anywhere though.

I bought something new

I’ve been wanting to replace my trusted MacBook for a while, mainly because we’ve started using more memory-consuming software at school, and it’s just no cutting it. I’ve reluctantly started looking a PCs and Windows-laptops, something I can afford at the moment, but then I got a nice offer on my current MacBook, I remembered my birthday is in 3 weeks and I got a lot of holiday pay, so:

Knight saying “Ni”and more!

I’ve been updating my wardrobe lately; working full time at a factory quickly makes you stop caring about what you wear every day, so I haven’t been buying much. I’ve wanted to buy this tee for a long time, so that was the first item I ordered. Jinx.com is awesome.

I found a cool clothing store called Threadless, and I’ve ordered shirts with the following images from that site:

There are tons of other great images on the site, but unfortunately almost all shirts in my size have been sold out. I think I’ll order some of these, when they’re back in stock:

I’ve thought about buying cloths with art by Derek Hess, I love his style, and I’ve found some shirts on STRHESSCLOTHING. Like this one:

Got Xbox 360?

Yup!

I first thought of buying one of the next-gen consoles last year, when I realized I had to upgrade my PC to continue playing the best games, and I just didn't bother. So, I had to choose between Xbox 360 and Wii, in the end, Wii won on account of numerous reasons. First of all I didn't want to pay much, this wasn't in the Wii's favor much though, since the Xbox 360 is down to 2.700 DKK, and a Wii Remote with a Nunchuck attachment cost approx. 600 DKK. Secondly I also wanted to play some of the classic GameCube games, especially Resident Evil 4 and Metroid Prime, which I've done now, and my desire to play games wasn't that big, therefore I didn't expect to buy that many games. Finally I really wanted to try the new controller.

I've owned Wii for almost two months now and it's probably been two weeks since I played games on it. I completed Twilight Princess, great game, Wii Sports has given me the best multiplayer experiences ever, but the rest of the Wii games haven't been that impressive. Madden NFL 07 just isn't me, Marvel Ultimate Alliance is pretty boring, Rayman was fun until completion and Call of Duty 3 would've been awesome if it wasn't for the big amount of ridiculous bugs. The only games I play now is the two mentioned GameCube games. When I bought the console I knew I had to wait for the big games, Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, etc., but my desire for playing has increased since then, and I'm not really that patient anyway. :P

The biggest reason for buying the console: I've got the money! Making more than 10.000 DKK each month, and my only 'expense' is the fact I'm saving most of it for my education. 2.700 DKK is only a week's work, I can live with that. Also, I will still keep the Wii, but only buy the big blockbuster games and the fun multiplayer ones.

Got Wii?

Yup.
